For applicants over the age of 18 the validity of the German passport is 6 years. If over the age of 24, the passport validity is increased to 10 years.
Application must be submitted in person at the Embassy of Consulate General during opening hours (9AM-12PM) AFTER scheduling an appointment. Applications can not be mailed. During the appointment, fingerprints will be taken and stored for a brief period after which will be deleted. Processing time is about 4 to 6 weeks.

Birth certificate stating the exact place of birth, just the country will not be enough. If your birth certificate does not include the exact place you can get a “proof of birth letter” from the hospital which will provide the name of the town.

Previous passport (if applicable)
Valid residence permit
Proof of current name usage
German Naturalization Certificate (if applicable)
Drivers license or utility bill in your name as proof of residence
Deregistration of your last place of residence in Germany (if applicable)

If your name has changed since your last passport a name declaration may be required before a passport can be issued
